Today in AVID Picking a Topic

Today the students will be practicing their Critical Note Taking Skills and using them to create a Power Point Presentation they will be presenting on Thursday.

First though they will need to create a NEWSELA account and join Mr. Robinson's Class.

They will be practicing reading from a computer and transferring that content to their Cornell Note Paper.  They will need to search out an article of their choosing.  They will then be creating a 2 minute Power Point which briefly summarizes using Pictures and Words the article they chose.  They will be presenting on Thursday.

Tuesday - Writing in Math Critical Thinking Challenge

Today in the Mathletic Club the students will  be putting their Pen's to the paper and using their Critical Thinking Skills to solve a unique riddle.  This will be their first of many writing in math Challenges.  The Rubric for the Writing Portion is included below.





Problems to Solve:
1.  How did she solve the Riddle so quickly??????
2.  If there was 300 lockers to be searched, Would the the 289 remain open at the end?
Do you have what it takes to be in the Robinson Mathletic 4 Not Square Club.  If you receive a perfect score in each are of your Rubric you will make the club!  Good luck!

Writing Summary Structure -  8 Sentences
1.  Restate the problem/problems.
2.  Summarize your Visualization
3.  Summarize your Summarize Box
4.  Summarize your Clarifying Box
5.  Summarize your Connections Box
6.  Summarize your Brainstorming Box
7.  Summarize your Questioning Box
8.  Wrap up the writing by restating the problem and telling your solution!

Then they will begin work on their Analysis of their Song Lyrics.

Their final paper will be a 5 - 15 paragraph essay.  It will take the following format.

Introductory Paragraph
        a.  Introduction to the Artist
        b.  How/Why this song was written by the artist
        c.  How it influences the fans
   
Body Paragraph 1
        a.  The lyrics of the song
        b.  Your Interpretation of the Lyrics and Why

Body Paragraph 2............

At least 1 Body Paragraph for each set of lyrics and the Chorus.

Conclusion
        a.  Walking back through a brief summary of each lyric
        b.  Walking back from the Artist Background
        c.  Generality of the future for the artists works.
